recycling How domestic batteries are recycled?

Once received at our partner's recycling facility, batteries are sorted based on type, and then processed for metal extraction.

Some types are processed locally and other less common types are exported to Europe according to local and international regulations. All batteries are stored and packed safely to prevent fire and hazards during all operations.

On average more than 77% of total weight of a battery is recycled in metals or alloys containing steels, zinc, manganese, nickel, lead, cadmium, cobalt, etc.

The recycled metals can be used for manufacturing new items: batteries, bikes, keys, etc.

Good to know!

Recycling batteries is good for the environment as batteries are made from heavy metals, such as nickel, cadmium, lead, mercury and silver which are highly toxic pollutants in landfills.

It takes a lot of energy to extract these valuable metals from the earth and reprocess them. So it makes good sense for a lot of reasons to recycle them: batteries contain harmful chemicals with a risk of leakage, fire and explosion, we can recover non-renewable materials by recycling batteries, it will also reduce the production cost of new batteries, and batteries are easy to recycle when disposed of appropriately. Recycling processes today recover approximately 25% to 96% (depending of the country) of the materials of a lithium-ion battery cell.
